Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Bolton, UK

Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum

Role

A well-established engineering business in Bolton is seeking a practical, detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team.You will work in a small, focused design unit, with a strong emphasis on quality and engineering standards, seeing your designs progress from concept through fabrication to final build. All equipment will be designed and manufactured on site, allowing you to influence the production process directly.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models
• Create general arrangement and detailed manufacturing drawings
• Carry out design calculations to support engineering decisions
• Ensure feasibility, functionality and manufacturability of all designs
• Apply tolerances and engineering best practices to all drawings
• Design equipment built and assembled on site
• Produce detailed drawings of component parts for fabrication
• Work closely with production and fabrication teams

Qualifications

• Proven experience with 2D AutoCAD and either SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor
• Strong knowledge of sheet metal design and fabrication processes
• Ability to produce manufacturing‑ready drawings with high attention to detail
• Commutable to the Bolton office for this permanent, office‑based position
• Knowledge of design calculations and tolerances
