Graduate Powertrain Systems Engineer
Location: Derby area, Derbyshire. Salary: £35‑45k + benefits.Note: This company cannot provide visa sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Work within a multiskilled team to bring next internal combustion engine (ICE) systems from concept to production.
- Develop product requirements and systems specifications for specific engine subsystems.
- Support subsystem development through all phases of the V‑cycle (concept, validation, production).
- Collaborate with component design, analysis, development, and test teams.
- Engage in system‑level design of complex mechanical systems for high‑volume applications such as automotive engines (diesel, hybrid, hydrogen). This is not a detailed‑level CAD design role.
Qualifications
- Relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree (e.g., automotive engineering) with a focus on engine modules.
- Demonstrable experience in powertrain engineering gained within formula student, academic project, or thesis.
- First‑hand practical experience with ICEs (build, test, development, calibration) within industry, academia or personal projects.
- Experience designing, developing, or testing base engine components and systems (e.g., fuel, air intake, valvetrain).
- Demonstrable interest or experience in automotive combustion engines (hydrogen, ICE, hybrid).
- Appreciation of product specifications, requirements, analysis, test/validation procedures, FMEA, 8D, and/or DVP processes.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles applicable to complex engineering problems.
