East Cheshire NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant in Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgery (Benign Conditions) to join the General Surgery team at Macclesfield District General Hospital for a 6 month period. This opportunity offers the chance to contribute to the ongoing development of Upper GI and General Surgery services within a supportive and progressive department.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Upper GI Surgeon with an interest in benign upper GI and hiatal surgery, strong laparoscopic general surgery skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Enthusiasm for teaching, training, and service development is essential.
The General Surgery department provides comprehensive elective and emergency care, supported by a 1 in 6 emergency general surgery on-call rota and a 24/7 middle-grade tier. The multidisciplinary team includes Surgical Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Colorectal Nurse Specialists, and robust nursing and administrative support.
The hospital offers excellent facilities, including endoscopy, CT, MRI, and interventional radiology, and has a strong education and training ethos. The key responsibilities of the role include:
NHS Medical and Dental salaries are set at a national level. For new starters not already working to UK Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service will be appointed to the minimum paypoint. The starting salary paypoint can only be increased when there is evidence of relevant, completed year's experience in terms of nature, type and level of role. The evidence required to increase a starting salary would be Payslips and details noted in the application form i.e. complete employment history.
