North Central London Cancer Alliance (NCLCA) is looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our team in improving cancer outcomes for the population of North Central London, covering maternity leave as part of a job share.

Reporting into the Senior Programme Lead, you will ensure robust implementation of current and upcoming projects. You will have experience leading delivery of projects, ensuring they reach key milestones and final completion within assigned timescales. You will be organised, proactive and motivated to achieve the best outcomes for patients. You will combine project management skills with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have a practical mindset. The ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders is essential. The role is suitable for someone with a background in project management, public health, or cancer services. This is an exciting time to join the Alliance, as we deliver an ambitious strategy in collaboration with the Integrated Care System.

Main duties of the job

North Central London Cancer Alliance works closely with local partners and NHSE to support delivery of cancer screening services. It also works in collaboration with partners to improve screening participation, increase awareness of cancer signs, symptoms and risk factors, to drive earlier diagnosis and prevent cancers. Underpinning this work is the aim to tackle inequalities in outcomes, experience and access.

The Senior Project Manager will be accountable for supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the Alliance’s prevention, awareness and screening improvement portfolio. The role will need to work closely with population health teams in local authorities, ICB, voluntary sector organisations, academic partners and primary care.

  • Project management and delivery – develop and implement project plans and monitor their delivery.
  • Stakeholder engagement – forge and maintain effective working relationships across multiple NHS and local authority partners in North Central London (the Boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey).
  • Data analysis – review and analyse data and present it in an accessible format to multi‑stakeholder groups.
  • Communication – represent the Alliance, communicate our work and write reports of a high standard.
  • Financial management – be responsible for devolved budgets.

Job responsibilities

Support the NCLCA leadership team in the identification of projects to deliver on the strategic priorities of the NCL cancer system and wider NHS.

Support the programme management team in the development and delivery of project plans; undertake and allocate tasks as appropriate; identify and manage risks, issues and dependencies; highlight best practice and appraise options; and ultimately make decisions in the best interest of the project and programme.

Take responsibility for a high standard of work, supporting the delivery of projects on time, to quality standards and in a cost‑effective manner.

Plan and organise numerous meetings and events, including governance groups; ensure timely circulation of agenda, minutes and papers.

Contribute to the development of improved patient pathways, through support to clinical, operational and population health teams, as relevant.

Build highly effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across the sector; promote and forge collaborative working; nurture and maintain networks.

Collate, analyse and present complex, at times sensitive information to a wide range of stakeholders, including statistical data and financial information, to support informed decision‑making.

With the communications lead, ensure effective communications are delivered on projects, including showcasing achievements and sharing learning and good practice.

Develop, monitor and report on project budgets, including managing variance and uplifts in response to changes to plans and emerging opportunities during implementation.

Record personally generated information, including frequent and ongoing use of project management software, logging data and running reports.

Be aware of and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures, the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Data Protection Act.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • High standard of written and spoken English.
  • Degree or equivalent (or able to demonstrate significant equivalent experience).
  • Project management qualification or significant experience equivalent to a Masters level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of issues in cancer care / services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS, its structures, processes and targets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cancer pathways and/or primary care.
  • Knowledge and experience of project management tools (such as PRINCE2 or MSP).

Experience

  • Extensive experience of running large‑scale projects/programmes in a large, complex organisation or network/system.
  • Successful record of managing and implementing substantial service transformation and organisational change projects.
  • Experience of effective financial management.
  • Significant experience of working closely with stakeholders to inform and implement initiatives.
  • Proven success in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of strategic plans.
  • Experience of working with partners and stakeholders to deliver sensitive changes to services.
  • Experience of management within the NHS.

Skills & Abilities

  • Highly skilled in multidisciplinary working, with the ability to forge effective working relationships with multiple and diverse stakeholders.
  • Project management skills, with a track record of successful delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills, including negotiation and influencing.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks within agreed time scales.
  • Record of successful line management, and team leadership desirable.
  • A sound understanding of the issues affecting patients with cancer, and the ability to engage them effectively.

Salary: £66,274 to £73,496 per annum inclusive of HCAS, pro‑rated.
