Rotational Clinical Pharmacist

We are seeking an enthusiastic and flexible Band 6 Rotational Clinical Pharmacist to join us on a 12‑month fixed‑term maternity cover.
About the role
You will play a key role ensuring patients get maximum benefit from their medicines, supporting safe prescribing, and providing clinical advice to medical, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams. Our rotations offer opportunities to develop clinical, leadership, and service‑improvement skills within a supportive environment.
Requirements
- Hospital pharmacy experience, or eligible to qualify as a pharmacist in August 2026.
- Community pharmacists are welcome to apply.
- Strong planning, prioritisation, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Commitment to developing clinical knowledge and skills.
- Satisfied eyesight for use of visual display units.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver high‑quality clinical pharmacy services across the Trust, including patient‑centred care and safe medicines use.
- Rotate through key operational and clinical areas, undertaking dispensing and checking duties, providing medicines information and prescribing support.
- Provide prescription transcription service after appropriate training to assist in the admission and discharge of patients.
- Participate in audits, clinical trials, training and mentoring activities.
- Support service provision across all Trust sites, including evening, weekend, bank holiday, and on‑call rotas.
- Maintain GPhC registration and adhere to all Trust and Pharmacy policies.
- Adhere to Trust policies on equal opportunities, health & safety, and other procedures.
- Communicate effectively with medical, nursing and other healthcare staff regarding therapeutic use, risk minimisation and legislation.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for Foundation Training Pharmacists.
- Carry out any other duties as may be required within the nature and grade of the post.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in pharmacy (or equivalent).
- Professional registration with the UK General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Demonstrated CPD to meet statutory requirements.
Experience
- Post‑registration work experience as a pharmacist.
- Hospital work experience through Foundation Training year or equivalent.
Skills
- Competent clinical ability and knowledge required for the post.
- Understanding of hospital pharmacy and its future agenda.
- Knowledge of medicines legislation.
- Proficiency in using e‑mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to develop services and exercise professional judgement.
- Ability to build rapport with colleagues and patients.
Other requirements
- Willingness to participate in out‑of‑hours service.
- Own transport and motor insurance for business use (or willingness to use own vehicle on call).
- Availability for weekday late duties, Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holidays on rota.
Additional Information
The post requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
