Job Overview

Opportunities are available for up to four people to join the Control Centre team at Pegasus, Castle Donington. The role entails responsibility for operation of the NGED High Voltage electricity distribution network up to 11kV, controlling both the Midlands distribution areas. Upon appointment, candidates will work 37 hours per week on a day rota, Monday to Friday. It is an expectation that people could move on to one of the other rotas in the Control Centre at a point in the future, which may include shift working on a 2‑shift basis (early and late day shifts plus some weekends). Successful applicants will be required to undertake a period of training on commencement, which will last for approximately 16 weeks. For appointment in the role, you must have a minimum of a level 3 in an Engineering subject that includes some electrical modules. People who do not have a Level 4 (HNC or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering may be required to complete this as part of their progression within the role. Evidence of your qualification certificates will be required prior to appointment. Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing HV system security and actions necessary to maintain optimum security on the electrical distribution network, ensuring all operations are carried out within the Distribution Safety Rules and other appropriate company policy and regulations
  • Operation of the company Network Control system (ADMS) up to 11kV, including switching and alarm management, and maintaining a record of all items
  • Checking and approval of planned switching schedules at all voltages up to 11kV
  • Approving the release of plant and equipment from service for work or testing, and consenting to the issue of Safety Documents up to 11kV
  • Carrying out a quality audit of Safety Documents returned from field operators at all voltages up to 11kV
  • Supporting the operational response to network emergencies or unplanned events
  • Facilitating the connection and commissioning of new plant and equipment at all voltages up to 11kV
  • Providing advice and solutions for matters relating to electrical systems and events impacting or likely to impact on the distribution network
  • Issuing field control (FCON) on defined sections of network up to 11kV
  • Fault switching to enable rapid restoration of customers’ supplies at all voltages up to 11kV
  • Responding to situations compromising public safety by danger from the system
  • Maintaining and ensuring an accurate record of customer outage data recorded for IIS reporting
  • Supporting the operational development of other people, such as trainees
  • Any other duties as directed by a Network Operations Manager that are required for network safety, security, or continuity of operations

Qualifications

• Minimum level 3 in an Engineering subject that includes some electrical modules

• Level 4 (HNC or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering preferred; if not held, completion may be required as part of progression within the role

• Candidates should live within 60 minutes of the Control Centre

• National Security Vetting clearance required; applicants must have resided in the UK for at least 5 years (exceptions apply)
