A specialist engineering manufacturer is looking for a Technical Procurement Engineer to take ownership of the technical specification and procurement of mechanical, pneumatic and instrumentation equipment and components used in the build of high-quality automated processing systems for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and research environments.
This is a hands‑on, end‑to‑end role where you'll work closely with Design Engineers, Project Management, QA and suppliers, ensuring parts are correctly specified, cost‑effective, compliant, and delivered on time.
What you'll be doing
- Create detailed technical specifications for mechanical, pneumatic and instrumentation components.
- Review project requirements and produce technical plans and supporting documentation.
- Issue drawings/specifications to suppliers for quotation and purchase.
- Negotiate price and lead times and manage the full PO lifecycle (order acknowledgements, invoice checks, expediting/chasing deliveries).
- Manage import/export requirements where needed.
- Ensure all project items are ordered and delivered to plan.
- Monitor factory stock levels and replenish to agreed minimums.
- Track supplier performance and feed back to QA/management.
- Coordinate logistics from small parcels through to delivery of complete systems.
- Support factory activity coordination (e.g., weld tests/procedures, third‑party inspections) alongside QA.
- Procure factory consumables/plant as required.
- Work in line with the company's Quality/Integrated Management Systems, H&S and environmental policies.
What we're looking for
- Engineering degree (or equivalent technical qualification/experience).
- Proven experience in technical procurement and producing clear specifications / documentation.
- Strong supplier management skills: negotiation, PO management, delivery control and expediting.
- Comfortable in a quality‑focused environment, with strong attention to detail.
- Confident communicator with stakeholders internally and externally.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint).
- Able to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines.
