As a Service Manager within our children’s residential homes, your primary focus is securing the very best outcomes for our young people. Your energy and commitment will be centred on the continuous pursuit of this goal. You will not be working in isolation. You will join a dedicated leadership team who oversee our children’s residential services and support a workforce of 150 staff across seven homes.

Drawing on your experience, insight, and compassion, you will help shape a consistent, high-quality service across all settings, ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding and care. We are investing in staff development, therapeutic practice, and increased capacity to deliver on this ambition. Our goal is for all children to be safe, happy, and healthy; to do well at school; to fulfil their potential; and to grow into confident, active citizens with voice and influence.

Your Role

As part of our children’s residential leadership team, you will oversee a portfolio of services across our community homes. Our provision spans a range of settings, including homes for children with complex needs, short-break services, long-term placements, and accommodation supporting children returning to family or preparing for independence.

Your Responsibilities

  • Ensuring each home delivers care and safeguarding of the highest standard.
  • Leading a culture of continuous improvement, with exceptional leadership and management in every setting.
  • Developing and implementing therapeutic practice models, including PACE, and ensuring they are embedded effectively.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to create a consistent service ethos that builds on the strengths of each home.
  • Ensuring teams work effectively with partners to improve outcomes for children across the city.

What you will bring

  • A Level 5 qualification relevant to residential childcare.
  • Proven experience in leadership and management, delivering outstanding services, shaping strategic direction, and driving continuous improvement.
  • A clear understanding of the regulatory environment and inspection requirements.
  • Experience of developing and sustaining successful partnerships to achieve shared goals.
  • A strong understanding of the needs of children and those who care for them, with the ability to articulate good practice and support, coach, and supervise staff.
  • Whether your background is in children’s residential services or broader multi-agency work, you will be a collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic, challenging, and committed environment.

You will bring energy, warmth, and humour, alongside the professionalism and credibility needed to engage effectively with a wide range of colleagues and partners.
