Head of Subject - A Level Geography

Location: Newcastle

Salary: £32,136 - £42,848 pro rata per annum

Hours: 29.6 to 37 hours per week

We are looking for a Head of Subject for A Level Geography within our Academic Studies Department. The successful candidate will lead and teach A-level Geography courses. You should hold an appropriate subject qualification to degree level and a Level 5 teaching qualification such as the Diploma in Education and Training (formerly DTLLS) or equivalent. Experience delivering A-level Geography and a proactive, team‑oriented approach are essential.

Responsibilities

• Organise, plan and monitor high-quality delivery of the agreed courses, including coordinating other lecturers.
• Deliver excellent standards of teaching and learning across all areas.
• Lead the Course Self-Assessment Reporting process.
• Play an active role in marketing the College and Department through activities such as open days and liaison with local employers and schools.
• Perform core duties including preparation, marking, monitoring student progress, setting and marking examination papers/coursework, and developing flexible learning materials.
• Monitor retention, achievement, pass rates, and overall student progress.

Qualifications and Experience

• Holds a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
• Has an appropriate teaching qualification.
• Is well organised and able to manage peaks and troughs of a varied workload.
• Has experience delivering A-level Geography.
