Your Purpose
As Principal Electrical Engineer within one of our four business units, you’ll provide engineering technical direction to the discipline engineers in your area, offer design support for schemes and ensure all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards.
You’ll be responsible for checking and reviewing electrical design deliverables produced by other electrical engineers in the @one Alliance and supply chain to ensure the processes and procedures are followed, and will coach and mentor junior and less experienced members of the electrical team.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Regularly report to the Discipline Head.
- Collaborate with Principal Engineer, Portfolio Design Managers and Project Design Managers to acquire upcoming project milestones and design review dates.
- Check specifications, schedules, datasheets, drawings, and 3D models to ensure quality, safety, and technical standards are adhered to.
- Coach and mentor junior and less experienced members of the electrical team.
- Review construction site and supply chain design queries and change requests to ensure quick but accurate responses and/or the design remains suitable.
- Input into Construction Design Management (CDM) and commissioning strategy meetings.
- Update and collaborate with the Principal Engineer and Design Managers where potential improvements can be implemented.
- Liaise with other departments and project teams with respect to design requirements.
- Manage quality through the design workflow review in line with the project timeline.
- Support other leads and discipline engineers to deliver their engineering outputs to time and quality standards.
- Drive sustainability and low carbon designs.
- Drive off‑site build, modular construction, and repeatable solutions.
About You
- Engineering, or equivalent, degree or be able to demonstrate a degree level of knowledge through relevant experience and preferably be Chartered, or working towards, Chartered status.
- Experience of water–sector assets and capital projects is essential.
- Comfortable demonstrating your knowledge of all relevant regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
- Experience of leadership, mentoring and coaching of junior engineers.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
Place Based Thinking
The Place Based Thinking team delivers some of the largest and most complex projects across the @one Alliance, managing all parts of the network from rising and gravity mains, pumping stations, high spilling overflows and water recycling centres across key sites such as Whitlingham, Flag Fen, Great Billing, Cotton Valley, Bedford, Colchester and Ipswich Cliff Quays.
Water
The Water Business Unit provides strategic support across the clean water network, covering both system performance and infrastructure planning, assessing the future hydraulic state of the network, supporting the design and delivery of capital and infrastructure schemes and working with optimisation teams to enhance overall network efficiency.
Water Recycling (East and West)
The Water Recycling Business Unit, split into East and West regions, is responsible for the collection, conveyance and treatment of wastewater across an extensive network of over 76,000 km of sewerage infrastructure and 1,163 treatment centres, ensuring safe and sustainable discharge to the environment while driving innovation and environmental performance.
