Chief of Staff

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is seeking an exceptional Chief of Staff to the Chief Executive Officer in a pivotal senior leadership role. The Chief of Staff will maximise the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of the Chief Executive Office, enabling the CEO to fulfil commitments to the Trust Board and key stakeholders. The role requires sound judgement, discretion, and the ability to operate confidently at Executive and Board level.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted advisor and confidante to the CEO, providing high‑quality written papers and briefings and ensuring follow‑up of actions.
• Review papers on behalf of the CEO and prepare written briefings in advance.
• Manage the CEO’s inbox and priorities, directing relevant tasks to the Executive team.
• Provide corporate leadership and manage the CEO’s budget, ensuring the management systems and governance support the relevant Executives and the CEO.
• Assist other executive board members in various ways, giving direct feedback on communications, presentations, and strategies to support the Executive team.
• Ensure the management of the CEO budget and the governance of the corporate office at the Trust.
