Job Description:

Our client is seeking a highly capable and experienced Project Manager to support the successful delivery of a major capital infrastructure programme in Barrow‑in‑Furness.

This is a key role within a complex and high‑value defence environment, offering the opportunity to lead critical project workstreams that contribute to nationally significant programmes.

Role

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of projects or discrete work packages within a wider programme. You will lead project teams, manage stakeholders, and ensure delivery is achieved in line with agreed scope, schedule, cost, and quality parameters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full project lifecycle from initiation, planning, and execution through to close‑out and handover.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project programmes, ensuring alignment with overarching programme milestones.
  • Take ownership of project budgets, including forecasting, cost control, and reporting of variances.
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks and opportunities, implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Manage and co‑ordinate multidisciplinary teams across design, engineering, commercial, and construction functions.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including client representatives, contractors, and supply‑chain partners.
  • Ensure compliance with governance frameworks, contractual requirements, and health, safety & environmental standards.
  • Monitor project performance using KPIs and reporting tools, providing clear and concise updates to senior leadership.
  • Support procurement strategies and oversee contractor performance, ensuring delivery against agreed outputs.
  • Drive continuous improvement, lessons learned, and the adoption of best practice across the project.

About You

  • Proven track record as a Project Manager delivering projects within construction, infrastructure, engineering, or defence sectors.
  • Experience working within complex, large‑scale programmes or highly regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, controls, and governance processes.
  • Demonstrable experience managing project budgets, schedules, risks, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence and coordinate diverse teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage at all levels.
  • Commercially aware with a good understanding of contracts and procurement processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar.
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is desirable.
