Shift times: Monday – Friday, 09:00–17:00
Office based role: Up to 2 days per week working from home available after successful probation, depending on staffing and cover requirements.
Contract: Fixed Term Contract till End of February 2027.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week.
We are looking for a Medical Secretariat Supervisor to join our team at London Bridge Hospital. The post holder will actively establish, maintain and strengthen relationships with the hospital’s stakeholders, independent secretaries (patients, consultants and clients) to support the whole patient pathway whilst championing best practice at all times.
As one of two Medical Secretary Supervisors, you’ll help oversee a team of around 45 Medical Secretaries, with direct line‑management responsibility for approximately 17 of them. Your role is central to the smooth running of the department, ensuring the team is supported, well‑organised, and delivering an excellent service.
What You’ll Do
- Act as the main point of contact for the Medical Secretary team and manage day‑to‑day departmental needs.
- Plan, allocate and review workload across the team.
- Conduct reviews, appraisals and monthly 1:1s, set clear objectives and monitor progress.
- Support performance management where required.
- Lead on recruitment and selection, ensuring the right skill mix within the team.
- Train and induct new starters, and ensure all staff are confident using our IT systems.
- Develop, implement and audit departmental policies and procedures to maintain high standards.
- Promote a positive, supportive and learning‑focused team culture.
- Handle complaints and escalations when appropriate.
- Manage stationery and equipment orders.
- Provide emergency cover for Medical Secretaries when needed.
- Work closely with the Head of Department and Deputy Manager on departmental priorities.
- Ensure information, documentation and communication are accurate, timely and of high quality.
What You’ll Bring
- Medical Secretary experience, ideally in Private Healthcare.
- Previous supervisory/leadership experience.
- Detailed knowledge and experience of all systems (DGL/Meditech/Carebit/Mosaiq).
- Strong organisational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritise responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including executives, managers, team members and external partners.
