Controls Engineer
Location: Manchester (Hybrid / Site-Based)
Salary: £45,000 – £65,000 (depending on experience)
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Manchester. This role involves the design, development, and commissioning of control systems across a range of industrial automation projects. You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, innovative solutions to clients across multiple sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop control systems using Siemens TIA Portal
- PLC and HMI programming, testing, and debugging
- Produce electrical schematics using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical
- Support system integration, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site commissioning
- Work collaboratively with mechanical, electrical, and software teams
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during installation and operation
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and safety regulations
- Provide technical documentation and support to clients
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Controls Engineer or similar role
- Strong proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal (PLC/HMI programming)
- Experience with electrical design software (EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical)
- Good understanding of industrial automation systems and processes
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Desirable Skills
- Experience with machine vision systems
- Knowledge of robotics (programming, integration, or commissioning)
- Experience working in manufacturing, logistics, or process industries
- Familiarity with industrial networks and communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP)
