Senior Estimator – Civils

Our client, a leading civil engineering and groundworks contractor, is seeking an experienced Civils Estimator to support a growing pipeline of industrial unit developments and infrastructure schemes. This role will focus on delivering accurate and competitive tenders across groundworks and road construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for:
• Groundworks packages (foundations, drainage, earthworks)
• External works for industrial units (hardstandings, yards, services)
• Road construction (adoptable roads, S278/S38 works)
• Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to produce accurate take-offs.
• Measure quantities from drawings and digital models.
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Build up rates for labour, plant, and materials specific to civils and groundworks.
• Identify project risks, constraints, and value engineering opportunities.
• Prepare and submit comprehensive tender packages.
• Liaise with clients, engineers, and internal delivery teams during bid stages.
• Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings.
• Maintain and update pricing libraries and cost databases.

Key Requirements

• Proven experience estimating within:
• Groundworks contractors
• Civil engineering contractors
• Strong knowledge of:
• Earthworks, drainage, foundations, and pavements
• Road construction and specifications (e.g. highways works)
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and site information.
• Experience with estimating software (e.g. Causeway, Conquest, or Excel-based systems).
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing and methodology.
• Excellent numerical, analytical, and commercial skills.
• Full UK driving licence (for site visits).

Desirable Experience

• Experience pricing industrial unit developments (warehouses, logistics parks).
• Familiarity with:
• S278 / S38 highway works agreements
• Adoptable drainage and infrastructure
• Knowledge of standard forms of contract such as NEC and JCT.
• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
