Responsibilities
- Provide RAM leadership and guidance on rail infrastructure, rolling stock, and signalling projects.
- Deliver consulting services and serve as a trusted contributor to project requirements from a RAMS engineering perspective.
- Undertake BS EN 50126 RAM activities including RAM plans, Functional Analysis, Functional Block Diagrams, reliability/availability apportionment, predictions and modelling, FMECAs, Fault Tree Analysis / Reliability Block Diagram, DRACAs and maintainability analyses.
- Collaborate with team members to minimise project risks and enhance integration and delivery.
- Project manage staff, directly manage subcontractors, mentor junior RAM members, and act as focal point for technical expertise.
- Ensure full project management and delivery while maintaining and developing strategic client relationships.
- Support RAM and safety activities in other sectors, provide input to proposal writing and future tender submissions.
- Encourage innovation and implementation of new techniques and tools for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
- Promote the WSP brand, secure business opportunities through industry partnerships, council participation, and presentations at conferences.
Qualifications
- Degree in technical engineering or equivalent extensive experience.
- RAM engineering experience (rail desirable but not essential).
- Professional institution membership (e.g., SaRS, IET, IMechE).
- Chartered Engineer registration or significant progression toward it.
- Proven technical leadership for RAM and Safety Engineers.
- Experience supporting RAM and Safety engineering arguments to clients and regulatory authorities in the UK and internationally.
- Extensive knowledge of BS EN 50126 RAM activities throughout the rail project lifecycle.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Extensive experience in mainline or metro railway disciplines such as signalling, control systems, traction power, depots.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience on international projects.
- Industry recognition in RAM.
- Fellowship or significant progression toward fellowship in a professional institution.
- Experience in other sectors such as aviation, nuclear, oil & gas, defence.
- Consultancy environment experience.
