Band 5 Staff Nurse (Battle Day Unit) – part‑time post of 18.75 hours per week.
The Battle Day Unit is a nurse‑led minor procedure and medical infusion unit for day‑case only patients, aiming to reduce hospital admission and length of stay.
Responsibilities
- Deliver care without direct supervision, being accountable for the care delivered and any omissions of care.
- Teach and supervise more junior staff, students and the non‑registered nursing workforce.
- Be accountable for care or any omissions of care that are delegated to others.
- Act as a role model, delivering care with empathy and compassion as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Assess the needs of patients, families and carers; plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of evidence‑based nursing care, demonstrating concise, accurate, and timely record keeping in both written and electronic form.
- Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Practice and Trust policies, protocols and guidelines; be accountable for own practice and for the appropriate delegation of care to colleagues, nursing support workers and students.
- Recognise deterioration in the physical or mental condition of the patient and take timely action, appropriately referring to others or working with other agencies as required.
- Recognise, respond to and appropriately manage emergencies.
- Develop competence in relevant clinical skills such as venipuncture, cannulation and PICC line care.
