Overview
The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis, and early-stage commercialisation. Our mission is to make significant scientific breakthroughs in battery technology research in the global race to electrification in the effort to tackle climate change. We manage large research programmes that bring together 25 UK universities, spanning a network of 500 researchers and 148 UK and 30 international industry partners to drive discovery in application-inspired research, working to solve some of the most challenging energy storage issues.
Role
We are looking for an experienced event manager to join our small but vibrant head office team on a fixed term basis for 15 months from 1 July to 30 September 2026 to provide continuity across our events programme whilst our current Events Manager takes maternity leave.
The Events Manager would be expected to lead on the conception, planning, delivery and analysis of our annual academic conference and other ad-hoc events from an in-house perspective, to meet a variety of objectives: raising our visibility and reputation, disseminating our pioneering research, and facilitating collaboration, development and engagement opportunities with and between our researchers.
Working collaboratively with multiple teams across the organisation, the Events Manager will deliver the 2026 Faraday Institution Conference in September in Nottingham, which will be in final stages of organisation and ready to execute onsite by their start date. They would also plan the 2027 Faraday Institution Conference from start to finish, providing an opportunity to put their stamp on a popular, vibrant and well-attended national conference.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Communications, the Events Manager will support the Faraday Institution Head office team in all events and with specific responsibilities for:
- Deliver the 2026 Faraday Institution annual conference in Nottingham 8-10 September onsite with our external conference secretariat team for support. The majority of planning and organisation will be in place, and the Event Manager will be required to ensure final details are confirmed and to lead the management delivery onsite from set up to finish.
- Plan and deliver the 2027 annual conference, within budget, owning the full planning and execution process from start to finish. This would include venue and supplier liaison, programme and speaker management, budget management, website development and marketing as well as logistical and supplier management.
- Supporting with the planning and execution of additional in-person Faraday Institution-organised events that may include workshops and outreach events, working with teams across the organisation.
- Maintaining the Faraday Institution events calendar, ensuring it aligns with the organisation’s strategy and its engagement plan for a variety of stakeholder groups, including academia, industry, and policy makers.
- Help coordinate and/or steer the team’s presence at external events, which may include responding to speaking invites on behalf of the CEO and the senior management team.
- Manage sponsorship of external events within the community to raise visibility of the Faraday Institution.
- Working with the Head of Communications and Digital and Social Media Co-ordinator, promote the conference and other events.
- Working with the CEO, as required, to develop the event portfolio for the Faraday Institution.
- Support and/or lead on any ad-hoc tasks as required within remit.
Requirements
- 5+ years successful event management experience.
- Proven track record of acting as conference producer for high quality events for up to 500+ people.
- Experience of managing in-person events as part of an events strategy.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence and professionalism to represent the organisation at and during the planning of events to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organisational skills; able to manage multiple projects to time, cost and quality simultaneously.
- A creative approach to theme and programme development and to improving audience engagement and interaction.
- Highly proficient in the use of digital platforms used in the planning, communicating or delivery of in-person and online events: WordPress, Eventbrite, Zoom, Hubspot, Survey Monkey or the demonstratable ability to quickly become proficient in online tools with minimal coaching.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Be able to attend in-person UK events, some of which will require overnight stays.
Desirable
- Experience in delivering events for academic, scientific, government or automotive industry audiences.
- Experience delivering events in-house on behalf of an organisation.
- A degree qualification or equivalent.
- Ability to work remotely and independently under own initiative as well as collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrable experience of working flexibly, including the ability to adapt to new situations, prioritise workloads and manage deadlines.

- Closing date: 12th May 2026
- Location: Blended working from home and based at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, near Oxford, UK, with UK – at least 2 days in the office per week.
- Salary: £40k-£50k
