Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Commutable to Preston (3 days in office per week)
Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 (depending on experience)
Working Hours: 40 hours per week (flexible between 7:00am - 6:30pm)

The Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (mid to senior level) to join our growing team. You will be working on a range of projects within the water and wastewater sector, supporting key clients including Welsh Water, United Utilities, and Yorkshire Water.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality mechanical design drawings in line with project guidelines (AMP8 and beyond)
- Develop design documentation including P&IDs, piping layouts, and technical specifications
- Carry out design calculations such as stress analysis where required
- Participate in HAZOP studies and contribute to project safety and compliance
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, site engineers, and internal stakeholders
- Liaise with clients to gather and clarify project requirements
- Support design leads with site surveys when necessary (occasional travel required)
About You
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering
- Strong background in the water or wastewater industry (essential)
- Experience working for a design & build contractor (Tier 1 preferred)
- Proficient in AutoCAD
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders
- A proactive, self‑starting approach with strong problem‑solving skills
