Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant post in Cellular Pathology at the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust. Flexible and inclusive working arrangements are supported for candidates wishing to work less than full time.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a cohesive, friendly, and highly motivated team in a supportive and forward‑thinking department. We particularly welcome applicants with a specialist interest, or a desire to develop an interest, in reporting skin, head and neck, or breast pathology. These interests would complement the expertise of our existing consultants and other specialist interests may be discussed.

Main duties of the job

You will be a Consultant Cellular Pathologist with a specialist interest in reporting skin, head and neck and/or breast pathology, or with a strong commitment to developing expertise in one or more of these areas. The department is progressing towards a Specialist Reporting model aligned to the Royal College of Pathologists’ Best Practice Recommendations for Staffing and Workload in Cellular Pathology (5th edition). Based on declared specialist interests, you will contribute to relevant cancer multidisciplinary teams and fulfil high‑quality diagnostic service delivery. You will also participate in clinical governance activities, including audit, and undertake associated administrative responsibilities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
• FRCPath or equivalent
• Other relevant higher qualification

Clinical Experience

• Training and expertise in diagnostic histopathology and cytopathology sufficient to practice as an independent consultant within the structures currently in place at the RUH, Bath
• Specialist interest in skin, head & neck and/or breast pathology, or willingness to develop such an interest
• NHS Experience

Management and Administrative experience

• Previous experience of audit and awareness of clinical governance requirements
• Completion of a general management course

Teaching Experience

• Willingness to share supervision of the Pathology Specialty Trainees

Research Experience

• Commitment to developing appropriate new diagnostic techniques
