Band 9 – Starting salary £48,139 per annum (this doesn’t include the NJC pay increase which is still to be agreed)

To help us achieve our ambitious People Strategy, we are looking for a motivated, innovative and experienced Senior HR Advisor to join our team.

The role

We are looking for a self-starter with significant senior level HR experience and experience with managing a small team. This is a truly generalist role, where the main focus is providing strong support to managers and staff across all our service areas. In this interesting and varied role, you will work closely with the Head of HR in assisting with the development and implementation of key HR strategies. This role includes complex employee relations case resolution, statutory compliance, business support and ownership of key projects that deliver organisational and corporate objectives. This is a fantastic chance to achieve exposure to areas of HR that you may have never managed to work in before, but always been interested in.

Your Activities Will Include

We are a small, busy and friendly team and you will need to be a self-starter, resilient, adaptable and enjoy being “hands on”. If you can learn processes quickly, work diligently and deliver great customer service then we can offer you a great opportunity to enhance your skills and experience.

About You

This position is ideal for an experienced Senior HR professional who is capable of working on their own initiative on a wide range of HR projects as well as supporting with ongoing casework. Bringing knowledge, passion and innovation to the role, you will be able to quickly assimilate information, build effective working relationships and be very organised with excellent attention to detail. You must have a thorough understanding of employment law and have relevant experience of managing complex employee relation cases. You will be creative and proactive to be able to work effectively with a range of different stakeholders: managers, internal communications, trade unions and the wider Council teams.

You will need strong IT skills and excellent communication skills, together with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple initiatives. Being approachable and an ability to coach others, no matter their confidence and ability, is an important requirement. You will be CIPD qualified/a member of the CIPD with relevant senior HR experience preferably in a unionised environment. Public sector experience would also be an advantage.
