Purpose of the role
We are seeking a dedicated and detail‑oriented Payroll Officer (Part‑Time, 22.5 hours) to join our Support Services team on a 15‑month FTC based at our head office in Solihull. The role involves processing end‑to‑end weekly and monthly payrolls for approximately 1,400 employees across the Colas Ltd Group and its subsidiaries. You will ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of payroll data, manage queries and liaise with the HR team and other stakeholders to provide excellent customer service.
Main Responsibilities
- Process weekly and monthly payrolls within designated periods while ensuring statutory compliance with PAYE, pensions, salary sacrifice schemes and holiday pay.
- Administer group pension schemes and ensure adherence to re‑enrolment processes.
- Manage statutory reporting and maintain engagement with HMRC, DWP, CMS, ONS, pension providers and other third parties.
- Advise on complex absence cases and process both statutory and company absences.
- Administer company benefits such as share incentive plans and ensure compliance with employee deductions, including union dues, court orders and vehicle fines.
- Support weekend, month‑end and year‑end payroll processes.
The Ideal Candidate
- Extensive experience with integrated payroll and workforce management systems, particularly strong familiarity with PeopleXD.
- Demonstrated ability to manage salary sacrifice schemes in full compliance with national minimum wage standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent time‑management abilities.
- Attention to detail, high level of confidentiality and professionalism handling sensitive information.
- Experience guiding employee engagement and collaborating with benefits providers.
Package Description
- 15‑month FTC, part‑time 22.5 hours across 3 days
- Salary between £28,000 and £32,000, pro‑rata
- Colas Pension Scheme with combined contributions of up to 10%
