Responsibilities
- Ability to work as part of a team, on your own and under pressure.
- Liaise with various members of staff within the hospital.
- Provide and receive routine information regarding patients (for example from GPs) requiring tact and discretion, using persuasive skills with awareness of the Trust and Caldicott guidelines.
- Deal with enquiries both in person and over the phone from patients, medical staff and the general public in a professional and co‑operative manner.
- Act as the first point of contact when dealing with bereaved family and friends, requiring discretion, tact and compassion.
- Maintain frequent concentration during daily duties, despite unpredictable patient numbers.
- Input data and answer queries from medical staff, patients and visitors with a high level of concentration.
- Ensure high accuracy to minimise clinical risk.
- Handle potential daily exposure to distressing information regarding complex clinical conditions and treatments carried out on patients.
- Understand a range of routine work procedures that require training and induction.
- Provide induction training for new starters on all reception tasks and responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Experience with a computerised Hospital Patient Administration System and up‑to‑date working knowledge of the Trust’s main inpatient and A&E systems.
- Accurate updating and registering of patient details, including use of the “inpatient waiting list” and “to come in” functions.
- Manage outpatient appointments and enter emergency admissions and discharges.
- General understanding and willingness to develop an understanding of hospital policies and procedures.
- Good understanding of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of other admin and clerical systems within the Trust, including a computerized scanner, Microsoft Office packages and the telephone system.
- Ensure compliance with mandatory training.
- Capable of providing induction training for new starters on all reception tasks and responsibilities.
