Operations Manager – Contracting / PAVE, North West & Yorkshire

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager with a proven background managing teams within the road surfacing sector to lead our PAVE Contracting operations across the North West and Yorkshire region.

This senior leadership role is accountable for delivering the local Operational Strategy, maximising financial performance, ensuring exemplary health & safety standards and developing high‑performing operational teams within a complex, commercially driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the Area Operational Strategy, achieving budget, forecast and performance targets
  • Maximise contract profitability through effective cost control, value optimisation and risk management
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety, quality and business standards
  • Lead operational and commercial reviews, including pre‑ and post‑contract evaluations
  • Develop turnover, volumes and long‑term work bank in support of commercial teams
  • Build and maintain strong customer and supply chain relationships
  • Drive operational efficiency, best practice sharing and One CRH collaboration
  • Lead, coach and develop operational teams, driving engagement and performance
  • Support dispute resolution, cash collection and contractual compliance
  • Promote sustainability, carbon reduction and net zero initiatives

About You

You will be a resilient, commercially astute leader who balances operational detail with strategic thinking and people development. You will demonstrate strong leadership capability, accountability, sound judgement and high‑quality decision‑making, the ability to manage conflict, adapt to changing operational demands, a collaborative inclusive approach that builds trust, and a strong drive for results, efficiency and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant operational leadership experience within road surfacing / asphalt contracting
  • Proven experience managing multiple construction contracts and teams at scale
  • Strong track record in commercial performance, cost control, operational delivery and risk management
  • Strong product, technical and operational knowledge relevant to the contracting sector
  • Sound knowledge and experience of estimating, costing systems, QA and company procedures
  • NEBOSH or IOSH Health & Safety qualification
  • HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent industry experience
