Material Handling Engineering & Construction

Centristic Limited is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our growing team. The role will be based at our head office in Newton Abbot, Devon, with regular visits to live project sites as required.

Centristic operates across the material handling, heavy engineering, and construction sectors, delivering complex projects for major UK and international clients including Tarmac, Holcim, Heidelberg, Sibelco, Kier, Willmott Dixon, and others.

The Role

You will take responsibility for the commercial management of engineering and construction projects, supporting project teams through the full project lifecycle from pre‑contract through delivery and final account.

This role is suited to a commercially astute individual with experience in engineering‑led contracting environments, particularly those involving mechanical installation, industrial construction, and material handling systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpretation and administration of standard and bespoke forms of contract
  • Preparation and submission of applications for payment
  • Identification, valuation and agreement of variations and claims
  • Main contract and subcontract administration
  • Procurement, appointment and vetting of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Drawing take‑offs and measurement
  • Production of Bills of Quantities
  • Experience across multiple contracting models, including:
    • Lump sum
    • Re‑measurement
    • Target cost
    • Reimbursable frameworks
  • Strong understanding of rights and obligations under the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 (as amended)
  • Preparation of extensions of time, disruption and loss & expense claims

Qualifications

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline is desirable but not essential
  • Relevant industry experience will be considered equally important
