Overview
The Head of Finance & Operations will lead the financial strategy, governance, and operational infrastructure of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, working closely with the Chief Executive and Board. This senior leadership role blends strategic oversight with hands-on delivery in a high-profile, values-led arts organisation.

Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of financial strategy, planning, reporting, and control
- Act as a senior adviser to the Chief Executive and Board on financial, commercial, and risk matters
- Oversee statutory compliance, governance, and company secretarial responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Finance & Operations team, fostering a high-performance and supportive culture
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, balance sheet control, and year-end processes
- Oversee key operational areas including IT strategy, contracts, suppliers, and risk management
- Support funding negotiations and reporting with Arts Council England and other stakeholders
- Play a key role in embedding new systems and supporting major strategic initiatives
Qualifications
- Fully qualified accountant with significant senior finance leadership experience
- Proven experience operating at SMT or Board level in a complex organisation
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent financial control and reporting capabilities
- Confident leader with experience developing teams and managing change
- Comfortable working in partnership with external stakeholders, funders, and auditors
- A values-driven professional with an appreciation for the arts, culture, and charitable impact
Job Offer
- Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 depending on experience (relocation support considered)
- Pension: 5% employer contribution with salary exchange option
