Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Buildings & Places sector, specializing in data centre design and delivery. In this strategic role, you will represent our data centre practice across the EMEA region, lead mechanical engineering projects within multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to thought leadership and strategic direction.
The Opportunity
Working from our London, Manchester, Belfast or Plymouth office on a hybrid basis, you will join a dynamic team experiencing significant expansion. Key Responsibilities
- Represent AECOM’s data centre expertise across the EMEA region.
- Lead mechanical engineering projects within multidisciplinary teams.
- Deliver complex data centre facilities for leading technology clients.
- Contribute to thought leadership and shape strategic direction in the Hyperscale and Co‑location markets.
Requirements
- Extensive technical delivery experience on data centre projects for technology firms.
- Proven track record of successful project delivery as a Principal Engineer.
- Ability to lead technical teams and collaborate across geographies.
- Ambition to contribute to thought leadership and strategic growth.
Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer or Architect (or equivalent professional qualification).
- Extensive experience in data centre design and/or project management.
- Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams on complex data centre projects.
- Strong understanding of permitting processes, building systems, regulations, and construction methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of Revit and digital design workflows.
- Clear work history and proof of professional development and learning.
Education
- Degree in Architecture, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer or Accredited Tier Professional.
