Graduate Firmware/FPGA Engineer – join Leonardo's Graduate Scheme to work on real‑world projects from day one. As a graduate, you will be part of a team of subject matter experts, receive coaching and support, and progress toward chartership.

During the Programme, You Will
- Gain experience of all aspects of the development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, applied research, and testing.
- Closely liaise with engineers from Systems, Software, Mechanical, and potentially interface with customers and end users.
As a Graduate Electronics Engineer You Will
- Design, develop, and verify firmware and digital systems using FPGAs.
- Collaborate on high‑performance digital signal processing solutions and real‑time systems for a variety of avionic sensor systems.
- Write efficient, reliable, maintainable code using HDLs such as VHDL.
- Simulate, debug, test designs in laboratory environments, optimise firmware for performance, efficiency and reliability.
- Design, implement, verify FPGA firmware for complex embedded systems, ensuring adherence to performance and safety requirements.
- Document and present design solutions to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Software, Electronics, and Systems engineers for seamless integration.
- Develop test plans and simulation environments to verify functional and timing requirements.
- Contribute to technical reviews, possibly travelling across the UK or abroad.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for hardware design processes and methodologies.
What you’ll bring – Entry Requirements
- Minimum 2:2 Bachelor’s, Integrated Masters, or higher (MSc/PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline.
- Preferred degrees: Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Information & Communication Engineering, Computer Communication & Networks, Ethical Hacking & Countermeasures, Cyber Security, Mathematics, Communications Engineering.
- Strong interest in firmware and FPGA development; basic familiarity with HDLs such as VHDL is desirable but training will be provided.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to learning new technologies.
Security Clearance
This role requires pre‑employment screening under the UK Government's Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Additional Personnel Security Controls, possibly National Security Vetting (NSV) such as Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV), may apply.
