Job Description:

The Logistics Design Manager works as a subject matter expert in the senior central operations team, reporting to the Head of Network Design, and is responsible for re‑designing the Operational Network to meet future capacity, cost, and service requirements, as well as delivering short‑term operational improvements and savings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end‑to‑end design ownership from idea development, early concept evaluation and prioritisation, stakeholder involvement, business case approval, detailed design, and deployment planning.
  • Ensure all design work complies with the law, health and safety policy.
  • Calculate budget levels using historical data, analysis, and expert opinion.
  • Provide new innovative solutions and coordinate them to achieve the strategic direction and Target Operating Model.
  • Make data‑driven and educated decisions based on processes, capacity, cost, productivity, and cost‑drivers.
  • Multitask and deliver numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Work independently and take responsibility for projects led or managed.
  • Work quickly and effectively to complete projects and solutions within the company’s timeframes.
  • Solve complex challenges and approach work with a “can‑do” attitude.
  • Manage a multimillion‑pound design project portfolio and roadmap to restructure the operational network to fulfil future business and service goals.
  • Create and deliver the Target Operating Model in collaboration with internal business stakeholders (IT, Operations, Commercial, Engineering, HR, Finance and others).
  • Collaborate with functional leads and technical experts to identify and quantify opportunity areas for further study to reduce costs, increase capacity, and improve service.
  • Create a forward plan of prioritised design efforts and initiatives, and supervise actions to guarantee that the plan is carried out.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative comparisons of choices using appropriate financial and operational analytical techniques to aid decision‑making.
  • Communicate effectively with sponsors and all stakeholders to ensure recommendations are understood and accepted.
  • Ensure a balanced view on quality, service, capabilities and cost by coordinating between operational and commercial colleagues.

Qualifications

  • STEM subject or logistics degree qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in logistics management or operational design/improvement.
  • Logistics operations experience; ability to generate operational improvements.
  • Project management and planning experience with a track record of delivering results.
  • Knowledge of the supply chain and its processes.
  • Demonstrable expertise in leading a strategic vision, managing senior employees, and influencing strategic direction at board level.
  • Operational costing, commercial profitability, and P&L experience.
  • Ability to multitask and deliver numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for projects.
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively within set timeframes.
  • Ability to solve complex challenges with a positive attitude.
  • Experience managing a multimillion‑pound design project portfolio and roadmap.
  • Experience creating and delivering a Target Operating Model in collaboration with stakeholders.
