About the role
- Build and test major new features, maintaining existing functionality for the Guardian’s Android apps.
- Work primarily with Kotlin (90%+ of the codebase) and may need to work with Java.
- Collaborate with iOS, server‑side, web engineers, designers, product managers, editorial and commercial colleagues.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain high app standards.
- Contribute to the decision‑making process within the team.
About you
- Demonstrated experience building and deploying Android applications.
- Passion for Android development and a strong interest in growing your skills.
- Comfortable coding in Kotlin using Android Studio.
- Experience or willingness to learn Java.
- Curiosity, passion for technology and the ability to find creative solutions to complex problems.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.

- £62,000 per annum salary for new Apps Developers.
- 12‑month fixed‑term contract.
- Hybrid working: 1 day a week in the Kings Cross office, 4 days remote.
