As a Lead Commissioning Specialist, you will be technically responsible for the preparation of commissioning specifications and execution of the energised testing at site, and lead the system test engineers and review site test results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of HVDC System Tests on‑site in line with the specifications.
  • Prepare and/or contribute to the generation of commissioning test procedures in coordination with System Engineering, Project Validation & Verification Lead, and reference to contractual requirements and international standards.
  • Prepare or revise additional testing procedures when required.
  • Perform tests of commissioning procedures on Real‑Time Digital Simulators prior to commissioning at site.
  • Prepare and contribute to the test programs and anticipate test durations.
  • Update and review the test schedule on a daily and weekly basis with the customer, managed alongside the Site Commissioning Manager.
  • Prepare power schedules and daily/weekly power profiles.
  • Ensure that the tests are conducted in accordance with the agreed and documented test procedures.
  • Coordinate with the customer for HV switching and power control.
  • Review station/converter behaviour (interaction with the AC network) to ensure satisfactory performance, documenting and evaluating any unpredicted behaviour before tests proceed.
  • Capture and log test results correctly and keep test reports up to date.
  • Issue daily reports to stakeholders at the end of each day of testing—a joint activity with the Site Commissioning Manager.
  • Gather return of experience throughout the testing of each project and provide a conclusive report at project end.
  • Report on a regular basis (daily and weekly) to the Commissioning Team Manager and Project Manager the progress of system tests.
  • Highlight potential and observed additional costs to avoid overspend and enable potential claims for changes.
  • Review test schedule performance versus the initial target overall testing program schedule.
  • Control and follow up on testing and measuring equipment (status and validity of calibration certificates).
  • Ensure safety equipment related to electrical activities is in place and valid.
  • Explain safety moment and test plan to all stakeholders at the beginning of each day.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Engineering degree or equivalent, covering power systems and power electronics, or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC business.
  • Successfully completed vocational training with demonstrated years of experience as a Commissioning Engineer in high‑voltage field, preferably as a Site Commissioning Manager.
  • Good knowledge of 400kV substation and HVDC system (LCC/VSC/SVC), including control and protection systems.
  • Knowledge of HVDC system operational behaviour and its impact on equipment for decisions when leading system testing at site.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel; Microsoft Project beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Fault Recorder (TFR) systems.
  • Understanding of substation control and protection systems and HV equipment operation is beneficial.
  • Experience working alongside GE is advantageous but non‑critical.
  • Willingness to work both in office and on sites worldwide for extended periods.
