Purpose of the Post
- Receive workplace experiences and support to complete a higher qualification and develop into a leader and expert in the field.
- YGC provides a multi-disciplinary consultancy service that supports the design and construction of safe and sustainable infrastructure across Wales, whilst offering the individual the opportunity to learn and develop alongside experienced engineers.
Main Duties
- Support transport projects by carrying out studies, analysing data and assisting with the design of infrastructure improvements that improve safety and mobility across Gwynedd.
- Gain first‑hand experience of the world of transport engineering by working on a range of projects that improve safety, mobility and infrastructure across Gwynedd alongside experienced engineers.
- Support transport and infrastructure projects to improve the safety and quality of life of Gwynedd residents.
- Undertake highway feasibility and safety studies.
- Contribute to safety audits and design of road improvements and bus infrastructure.
- Analyse traffic data and assess pedestrian crossings and walking and cycling routes.
- Review accident data and advise on road safety measures.
- Design and consult on new road signs, road markings, and safety measures.
- Hold public consultations on proposed transport plans.
- Follow the Council's policies in relation to health and safety, equality, data protection and carbon reduction.

Relevant Qualifications and Training
- Possess or are likely to earn a class grade of 2:2 or higher.
- Your degree should be in a subject that is relevant to the field.
Specialist Skills and Knowledge
- A valid current driving licence
Language Needs
Listening and Speaking – Higher Level
Be able to follow a conversation or discussion through the medium of Welsh and English at a professional level and discuss general topics on a daily basis in the field in order to present information and express opinions. Be able to provide a pre‑prepared presentation and respond to any comments and questions on it through the medium of Welsh and English.
Reading and Understanding – Higher Level
Be able to understand standard, formal and informal Welsh and written English. Be able to gather information from various sources such as letters, reports, articles, through the medium of Welsh and English in order to carry out the job.
Writing – Higher Level
To present written information with confidence in the form of a letter, a more detailed and technical report and to respond to written requests conveying information, ideas and views through the medium of Welsh and English. (It is possible to get help to check the language).
