About the Role:
As an MER Technical Trainer, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality technical training and coaching across refrigeration and/or electrical disciplines. You'll create dynamic learning environments – both in the classroom and out in the field – equipping colleagues at all levels with the skills, behaviours, and safety mindset needed to achieve a high-performing culture. This is a hands‑on role where your technical expertise, coaching ability, and commitment to safety will directly influence the capability and progression of our engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging technical training and coaching across refrigeration, HVAC and/or electrical disciplines.
- Create energetic learning environments and promote a robust safety‑first culture.
- Support engineers in the field to embed learning, improve performance, and close skills gaps.
- Identify training needs through observation, coaching and performance insights.
- Contribute to blended learning design, including classroom, virtual, coaching and on‑the‑job training.
- Assist with technical assessments for recruitment, progression and talent programmes.
- Support mobilisation activities and new business requirements where needed.
- Provide accurate reporting on training attendance and compliance.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Help manage the technical development budget and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
- Use your industry knowledge to influence strategic decisions around emerging technologies and sustainable systems.
Essential Qualifications
- Recognised Trade Qualification in Electrical, HVAC or Refrigeration (minimum Level 2)
- City & Guilds 2079 (FGAS Cat 1)
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Significant engineering experience, ideally in a retail environment
- Strong background in a relevant technical discipline
- Practical experience across a variety of Electrical, HVAC and/or Refrigeration maintenance and installation tasks

- 18th Edition
- Test & Inspection
- CO Safe Handling
- Hydrocarbon Awareness
- Experience with refrigeration, heat pumps, and air conditioning systems
- Experience with CO and Hydrocarbon refrigeration
- Understanding of control systems, PLCs, wiring diagrams and automation
- Knowledge of sustainable energy systems

- Salary up to £55,000 per annum, depending on experience
