Transport Planning Manager

Location: EssexSalary: £35,000 – £40,000Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Pure Resourcing is working in partnership with a fast‑paced, distribution‑led organisation to recruit a Transport Planning Manager for a key operational role within their logistics team. This is a hands‑on, highly visible position, sitting at the centre of transport execution across a multi‑site operation. You’ll take full ownership of day‑to‑day transport planning, ensuring customer orders are delivered on time, routes are planned effectively, and haulier performance is managed proactively in a live environment. This opportunity will suit an experienced transport or logistics professional who thrives under pressure, enjoys problem‑solving in real time, and takes pride in delivering a high level of service within a complex distribution network.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of transport planning and execution across multiple sites.
  • Receive and process customer orders, ensuring accuracy and clear communication around deliveries.
  • Plan and coordinate third‑party and dedicated haulage requirements.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all transport‑related issues, resolving delays or disruptions proactively.
  • Maintain live visibility of vehicle movements and respond quickly to issues as they arise.
  • Communicate closely with internal teams and customers to manage expectations and service levels.
  • Plan and coordinate inter‑site stock movements, including booking delivery slots and arranging haulage.
  • Maintain and update the central transport and logistics planning systems.
  • Drive best practice across transport operations, focusing on efficiency, service, and cost control.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with hauliers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

About You

  • Proven experience in transport planning, logistics coordination, or haulage management.
  • Confidence working in a fast‑moving, customer‑facing supply chain environment.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, able to manage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proactive, solutions‑driven approach with the ability to anticipate and mitigate issues.
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with transport management or ERP systems (e.g., TMS, SAP) – highly desirable.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and juggle multiple priorities effectively.
