Senior Software Engineer

Location: Stevenage | Hybrid, typically 3-5 days onsite per week

Salary: £40,000-£60,000 depending on experience

A leading defence engineering business is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to develop test equipment software for complex missile systems and sub-components. This is a high-impact role in a secure, delivery-led environment where software quality, automation and engineering discipline matter.

The business operates across the full product lifecycle and offers the scale, technical challenge and long-term progression that comes with a major defence programme.

Role Responsibilities

- Design and develop test equipment software for complex systems and sub-assemblies.

- Build robust software solutions in C and C++.

- Contribute within an agile development team.

- Support high software quality standards and engineering best practice.

- Apply automation, continuous integration and DevOps principles.

- Use electronics measurement and debug tools such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analysers.

Ideal Candidate

- Strong background in software engineering for test solutions.

- Confident in C and C++; scripting language experience is advantageous.

- Comfortable in agile delivery environments.

- Practical understanding of quality, automation and CI/CD.

- Familiar with electronics measurement and debug techniques.

- Able to operate in a secure, collaborative, on-site working model.
