Overview

Lead Mechanical Engineer – Didcot Site

Location: DidcotHours: 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday, 08:00–17:00)Salary: Up to £55,000 + BenefitsAnnual Leave: 25 plus bank holidaysOn-Call: Participation in rota required

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of the mechanical maintenance function at the Didcot site, delivering Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance to meet statutory and contractual SLAs.
  • Act as Authorised Person – Pressure Systems, ensuring compliance with AWSL Rules and Policies and managing all related permits.
  • Ensure the highest standards and AWSL competencies are delivered and demonstrated.
  • Deliver Portfolio M&E PPM and minor works.
  • Keep Client, Customer and Team informed through feedback and regular updates.
  • Contribute to delivering a quality service with high customer satisfaction.
  • Provide technical support, advice and guidance to the Customer and Team.
  • Ensure best value by checking resources and materials are suitable to deliver the service.
  • Ensure safe delivery of all AWSL works, including those of service partners.
  • Produce details of time and materials required for minor works for quoting purposes.
  • Build and foster relationships with Client, Customer and AWSL colleagues.
  • Ensure Planon system is updated via issued tablet and that all time is accounted for on the timesheet.
  • Take ownership of the site delivering exceptional service to the customer.
  • Manage and cover call-out responsibilities out of hours when rostered.
  • Escort contractors where needed and issue/manage Permit to Work systems.
  • Maintain knowledge and implementation of the LOTO procedure.
  • Demonstrate understanding of relevant legislation to work on Mechanical Systems.
  • Produce suitable risk assessments for typical tasks on Mechanical Systems.
  • Prepare Safety Programme and Statement of Isolations, Permits to Work and Standing Instructions in accordance with Safety Rules and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Strong, demonstrable competencies in dealing with building services plant.
  • Knowledge and experience operating and adjusting Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Knowledge and experience working on HVAC systems.
  • 2 years of experience within a similar environment, particularly across multi-site and multi-discipline service delivery.
  • Experience with asset/work management systems such as MAXIMO / CAFM on smartphones.
  • Oversee and certify the isolation of Mechanical Systems as Authorized Person, and oversee/authorize work on systems isolated by other AP, in accordance with Safety Rules and Procedures.

Qualifications and Training

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent building services qualification
  • Legionella (L8) trained and competent
  • AP11 or equivalent Authorized Person Mechanical System qualification
  • City & Guilds BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulation (Desirable)
  • Apprentice trained in an M&E discipline (Desirable)
  • Commercial Gas Qualifications (Desirable)
  • Commercial F-Gas Qualifications (Desirable)
