Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology

Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist – Mountainhall Treatment Centre

We are looking for a qualified consultant to provide General Ophthalmology Services at the Mountainhall Treatment Centre, Bankend Road, Dumfries, DG1 4AP. The successful appointee will support the Department’s ophthalmology service for the Dumfries and Galloway region (approximately 150,000 population).

Responsibilities

• Deliver general ophthalmology outpatient and theatre day‑case care at MTC.
• Provide general anaesthetic theatre and acute care support at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
• Attend local anaesthetic theatre lists and outpatient clinics, including a macular service, at Galloway Community Hospital.
• Assist in macular, glaucoma, cataract and plastics clinics supported by nurse practitioners.
• Collaborate with paediatric orthoptic services.
• Serve as part of a team of five consultants and one specialty doctor; participate in 24-hour ophthalmic emergency coverage, with current review for daytime only local cover.

Qualifications

• Registered on the GMC Specialist Register.
• Hold a CCT or CESR (Article 14 – Certificate of Equivalency) or be within 6 months of obtaining the certificate.
• Equivalent experience will be considered for candidates pursuing a CESR application.
