Job Summary
Manages the delivery strategy, leads teams and is accountable for the overall performance of areas they are assigned to. Leads and coordinates with all relevant parties to deliver project objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs). Provides direction and leadership of the project and the project team. This position is a client-facing role, responsible for leading teams and accountable for the delivery strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and report to the Project Director, defining and managing the delivery strategy.
- Ensure the safe delivery of a large part of the HS2 Euston programme.
- Coordinate between procurement, design, construction and assurance teams to enable subcontractors to progress work on site according to the schedule.
- Recruit, develop and lead high‑performing teams that strive for quality, safety, cost and schedule improvements at every opportunity with all delivery partners, challenging and seeking to improve project deliverables.
- Act as line manager to senior project managers and heads of functions.
- Accountable for project timeframes and budgets, ensuring diligent budget management and highlighting risks, challenges and mitigations.
- Ensure client requirements are met, providing timely quality, assurance and compliance documentation in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor works to achieve right‑first‑time performance and conduct lessons‑learnt reviews to promote continuous improvement, while maintaining daily records.
- Manage all support functions from a project perspective and work with function leads to ensure sufficient subject‑matter expert support.
- Drive procurement of services and works, reviewing and approving all scope of works prior to tender.
- Manage overall client interaction and relationship.
- Act as escalation point for project risks from senior project managers and heads of functions.
- Provide project reports to the client and directors, including progress, actual cost, forecast and highlighting problems for resolution.
- Promote and deliver a collaborative environment among all team members, stakeholders and the supply chain. Establish and maintain site organisation and facilitate effective communications.
- Ensure all packages starting on site have an approved readiness review.
- Champion and implement best practice safety management and initiatives across all aspects of design and site delivery, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment.
- Lead safety and quality investigations, identifying root causes, learning lessons and implementing control measures to prevent recurrence.
- Identify, develop and lead project improvement initiatives.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise and guidance to support the success of broader Mace and Dragados projects.
Qualifications, Certifications and Experience
- Proven team leadership with teams of 30+ people.
- Experience overseeing budgetary and NEC contracts.
- Proficiency in client and stakeholder management.
- Understanding of project management methodologies and practices.
- Excellent communication skills (including presentation skills) in English, able to report at Director and Board level.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills across estimating, scheduling, contracts administration, procurement and financial controls.
- Technical expertise in Health and Safety Executive (HSE) rules and regulations.
- Ability to operate at the highest level of compliance.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organisational skills and time‑management ability.
- Membership of an appropriate professional body (MCIOB, MAPM, MRICS, MICE or local equivalent).
- Experience within a similar role in an appropriately sized organisation.
- Experience in successful construction delivery phase of projects and programmes.
- Demonstrable evidence of deep project management expertise.
- Appropriate CSCS card (or equivalent local safety certification).
- Previous experience on rail projects across London Underground, Network Rail, Crossrail.
- Excellent understanding of all MEPFC systems, codes, BS and LU standards relevant to the works.
- Experience dealing with MEP designers, contractors and subcontractors.
