Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – The Role

• Leading concept and detailed design of complex mechanical systems
• Performing hand calculations and stress analysis
• Taking ownership of full project delivery, not just isolated design packages
• Supporting manufacture, assembly, and factory acceptance testing (FAT)
• Producing and reviewing technical documentation
• Acting as a technical point of contact for clients
• Mentoring and supporting junior engineers within the team
• Conducting peer reviews and contributing to engineering standards

Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – The Person

• ~5+ years’ experience in mechanical design within subsea, marine, or oil & gas
• Proven experience delivering full lifecycle projects (concept → manufacture)
• Strong capability in hand calculations and stress analysis
• Experience designing fabricated structures and mechanical systems
• Background in companies such as subsea OEMs or specialist engineering firms
• CAD experience (Inventor ideal, SolidWorks also suitable)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work closely within a small team
• A proactive, hands‑on approach with a willingness to take ownership

Located in Tyne & Wear, this role would be commutable from Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, Durham, Gateshead, Jarrow, Hebburn, Washington, Chester-le-Street, Blyth, Cramlington, Seaham North Shields, South Shields, Morpeth, Peterlee and surrounding areas.
