Automation Tester – UK/Remote – Government

£400.00+ Per Day Inside IR35


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks using Java, Selenium, and Cucumber.
  • Create and execute automated test scripts for functional, regression, and integration testing.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, BAs, and product teams to understand requirements and ensure test coverage.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform root cause analysis of defects and work with development teams for resolution.
  • Ensure adherence to testing best practices, coding standards, and quality processes.
  • Provide regular updates on test progress, coverage, and risk.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and support test automation integration into build processes.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Active Security Clearance.
  • Strong, commercial experience in automation testing using Java.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver for UI automation.
  • Solid experience using Cucumber / BDD frameworks.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Understanding of API testing tools and frameworks (e.g., RestAssured, Postman).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Government background.


Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience within Government or large-scale enterprise projects.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).
  • Understanding of containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes).
