Elevation Design & Projects are supporting a key client in Plymouth to recruit a skilled and innovative Design Engineer.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll take ownership of designs across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to production, supporting both new and existing products in a technically demanding environment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead design and development of new products from specification through to production release
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions
- Maintain 3D CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation with full version control
- Design and support tooling, jigs, and fixtures for production
- Carry out mechanical analysis, validation, and compliance activities
- Support production with troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide technical support to sales, customers, and external partners
- Assist with cost estimation, project planning, and budget tracking
What we’re looking for:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Strong 3D CAD skills (Solid Edge / Teamcenter desirable)
- Proven design and problem-solving capability with a practical mindset
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and lead design reviews
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles and best practices
Desirable experience includes:
- Background in a regulated industry (e.g. rail)
- Knowledge of welded fabrications and cast components
- Experience with composites and/or electrical principles
- Familiarity with continuous improvement tools such as PDCA
