About the RoleAre you passionate about supporting students who thrive outside of a mainstream setting? Our Alternative Provision (AP) in Burnley is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team this May. Whether you are a Qualified Teaching Assistant or an Unqualified Mentor with significant experience in youth work, sports coaching, or social care, we want to hear from you.
You will work with students (Key Stage 3 & 4) who may face social, emotional, or mental health (SEMH) challenges. Your mission is to provide a "fresh start" for these learners, helping them engage with education through 1:1 support and small-group interventions.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngagement: Build strong, trusting relationships with students who have disengaged from mainstream education.
Behavior Support: Use de-escalation techniques (such as Team Teach) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
Academic Support: Assist in delivering a modified curriculum, ensuring every student has the tools to achieve their potential.
Progression: Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to monitor student progress and support their transition back to mainstream or into post-16 education.
Qualified Candidates: Those with a Level 2/3 TA qualification or a degree in Education/Social Work.
Unqualified Candidates: We welcome applications from individuals with backgrounds in Youth Work, Sports Coaching, the Military, or Care, provided you have the resilience and empathy to work with SEMH students.
Local Knowledge: You should be based in or able to commute easily to Burnley.
Temp-to-Perm Path: We are looking for a long-term addition to our family; the first term is a chance for us to ensure we are the right fit for each other before moving to a permanent contract.
Specialist Training: Gain access to professional development in Safeguarding, SEMH awareness, and behavioral management.
