Working in our Chief Technology Office (CTO)

The CTO division is where Open Cosmos technology comes to life. Covering engineering, product development, and technical innovation, the team designs, builds, and operates the satellites, systems, and platforms that make our missions possible. It’s a highly collaborative environment where ideas become real hardware, software, and data solutions that deliver impact from space.

Our Ground Segment team builds and runs the software that powers Open Cosmos missions. From our cloud-native Mission Operations Centre (MOC) to customer-facing tools, they design, deploy, and operate the systems that keep multi-satellite constellations flying.

Working with modern technologies — microservices, Kubernetes, Go, RabbitMQ, Postgres, and Terraform — they follow an agile, DevOps-driven approach. Every engineer owns their work end-to-end, from design and code to testing and operations, with plenty of space to suggest improvements and shape how they work.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Junior Front End Engineer, you’ll design, build, and optimise the mission operations user interface that powers Open Cosmos satellite missions. You’ll write and ship production‑ready React code, implementing features that improve usability, performance, and scalability.

You’ll work closely with operators, designers, and product owners to turn requirements into clear, intuitive user interfaces. You’ll review code, champion React best practices. As our software grows, you’ll tackle performance challenges, improve reliability, and continuously enhance our tools, processes, and CI/CD workflows.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

• Programming skills in React and TypeScript, with a focus on building clean, maintainable, and scalable applications.
• Exposure of working with state management solutions like Redux, Zust and, or Context API.
• The ability to write and maintain unit and integration tests to keep components reliable.
• A understanding of front‑end performance optimisation techniques and when to apply them.
• Working with CI/CD pipelines to support smooth and reliable deployments.
• The ability of promoting React‑specific best practices and improving front‑end workflows.
• Clear, collaborative communication — able to partner effectively with designers, product owners, and backend engineers.
