Position is responsible for
Switchgear Design
Main purpose of job
We are looking for a candidate that has the ability to review a client single line diagram/ project scope and turn it from a sketch / concept to a mechanical and electrical design that will meet the clients needs. Utilising AutoCAD and inventor software the candidate will be able to deliver the following solutions:
- Mechanical General Arrangements
- Device Schedules
- Single Line Diagrams
- Electrical control diagrams including Change over, metering and control circuits.
- Inventor mechanical design drawings for components
- Full 3D assembly drawings
- Liaison with mechanical fabricators for component fabrication.
- Create full BOMs for mechanical and electrical components.
- Project Management with internal teams and direct with clients to meet project specific and internal deadlines.
- Knowledge of Current switchgear standards including BS EN 61439-1:2021.
- Support and assist in delivering client FATs, On site set up and commissioning where required.
- Maintain document libraries including As Built and O&M documentation.

- Applies engineering judgement aligned with BS EN 61439-1:2021 and other relevant standards.
- Ensures accuracy, completeness, and traceability of all drawings and documentation.

- Produces high-quality outputs (AutoCAD, Inventor, schematics, BOMs) with minimal rework.
- Maintains strict version control and document integrity (especially for As-Built and O&M packs).
- Proactively identifies design clashes, risks, and omissions early.

- Interprets client single line diagrams and specifications accurately.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with clients to resolve ambiguities.
- Balances technical compliance with practical and commercial considerations.

- Mechanical fabricators

- Project stakeholders
- Shares information proactively to avoid bottlenecks.
- Supports FATs, commissioning, and site activities as part of the wider team.

- Understands dependencies between design, procurement, and build phases.
- Flags risks to timelines early and proposes mitigation.
- Seeks to improve design efficiency, standardisation, and repeatability.
- Keeps up to date with evolving switchgear standards and technologies.
- Contributes to improving internal processes, templates, and libraries.
