Dispensary Manager

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Dispensary Manager to lead the day‑to‑day operation of one of our busy hospital dispensaries. In this key role, you will ensure the safe, timely and efficient supply of medicines across the Trust, oversee staffing, rotas and workflow, maintain high standards of governance, safety and stock control, and support the ongoing development and performance of the dispensary team. Working closely with pharmacy and clinical colleagues, you will help deliver a smooth, reliable and patient‑centred medicines supply service.

Main duties of the job
- Coordinate daily dispensary work to keep services running smoothly.
- Organise staffing and manage workload priorities.
- Maintain accurate stock processes and meet required standards.
- Help develop staff skills and support a positive team culture.
- Contribute to service improvements, including digital developments.
- Work closely with pharmacy and clinical teams to deliver a reliable, patient‑focused medicines service.

Qualifications
- Approved or recognised course/qualification meeting the requirements for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Undergraduate degree or currently working towards one (Pharmaceutical / Health & Social Care field) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- A management or leadership qualification, is currently studying for one, or can demonstrate equivalent experience.
- Evidence of short HR‑related courses (e.g., Recruitment & Retention, Appraisals, Managing Attendance, Managing Performance).
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
Experience
- Extensive experience within a hospital pharmacy environment.
- Recent and relevant management or supervisory experience, ideally within hospital pharmacy.
- Knowledge of HR legislation and policies, with experience applying them in practice.
- Recruitment and selection experience.
- Staff development and appraisal experience.
- Experience of managing change within a complex environment.
- Significant experience of working with automated dispensing systems.
Skills and Knowledge
- Highly developed organisational and analytical skills, clearly evidenced through previous managerial or supervisory experience.
- Proven leadership and motivational skills, clearly evidenced through previous supervisory or managerial experience.
- Highly effective communication skills, including active listening and strong written and verbal abilities, demonstrated when working with individuals and groups.
- Proven performance management skills, demonstrated through effective staff development, objective setting and review.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build positive relationships at all levels.
- Proven ability to manage a complex and demanding workload, maintaining effectiveness under pressure and prioritising tasks appropriately.

£49,387 to £56,515 a year pro rata for part time staff.
