The Junior Prosthetist's role is to assess, prescribe and treat amputees and those with limb absence through the provision of a custom-made medical device to meet the complex prosthetic needs of severely disabled clients, using a wide variety of materials and manufacturing processes including IT systems. The role includes designing, creating working drawings for the technical team and understanding of materials specification and performance to allow appropriate prescribing.
The Junior Prosthetist will support ongoing maintenance, fault-finding and repair of these highly specialised devices.
The Junior Prosthetist will participate in multidisciplinary clinics with fellow team members and those from referring services both in BCUHB and further afield.
The Junior Prosthetist will share clinical experience and decision making with those from MDT services.
The post holder will be involved in provision and treatment for upper limb and lower limb with the necessary support for very complex cases from providers and their clinical specialists. Veteran treatment will always be overseen by a senior clinician as will myoelectric upper limb and microprocessor provision.
The Junior Prosthetist may undertake domiciliary visits to clients and visits to hospitals, schools and other establishments in company of another team member.
Assessment, assembly, adjustment, demonstration and instruction in the use of equipment; routine administration, prioritisation of own workload and contribution to group workload planning will be necessary.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
