We are looking for a Children’s Home Registered Manager to assist the Head of Service in achieving the aims and objectives outlined in the Statement of Purpose of the Children’s homes and addressing the wider needs of the site at Merida. This role involves managing a two‑bedded home that caters to children aged 12 to 18 years who require additional support due to mental illness or concerns about their safety due to significant risks of self‑injurious behaviours.
As part of a multi‑disciplinary team, which includes our on‑site school, you will collaborate with the clinical team and teachers to support the children in their transitions from Merida, following the successful achievement of the goals set out in their care plans.

Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive care plans ensuring each young person has a tailored plan addressing care, education, social, emotional, cultural, therapeutic, and health needs.
- Recruit and develop a strong team, support through induction, personal development plans, and retention to ensure familiar faces for the young people.
- Foster consultation by developing systems to consult young people about the care they receive.
- Allocate key workers: Assign a key worker to each young person to implement their care plan.
- Maintain high standards by establishing and monitoring quality care standards in line with the quality standards and the home’s Statement of Purpose.
- Handle complaints and concerns, taking responsibility for addressing any complaints or child protection concerns.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in partnership with parents, carers, and other professionals to promote the welfare of young people.
- Participate in meetings: Attend and contribute to care planning and review meetings as appropriate.
- Embrace a safe culture ensuring the children in the service are cared for at the best possible standard.
- Effectively manage the home’s commercial aspects, ensuring alignment to budget expectations.
Essential Requirements and Experience
- Passionate about making the difference to the lives of young people in care.
- Relevant experience: At least 2 years in a position related to residential care of children, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role within the last 5 years, to register with Ofsted.
- Qualifications: Level 3 in Children’s Residential Care is essential; Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare is preferred at the point of application, otherwise enrollment within 6 months of starting in post is required.
- Knowledge of the Quality Standards, SCCIF, childcare legislation, and regulatory requirements.
- Skills: Planning, organising, budget control, resource allocation, and team leadership.
- Communication: Confidence in effective spoken and written communication.
- Understanding trauma and knowledge of the needs of children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, including managing challenging behaviour.
- Driving licence: Full UK licence required.
