An exciting opportunity has arisen for Newly Qualified Learning Disability Nurses (NQN) to join Eastway, our Adult Learning Disability Assessment and Treatment Unit, at the Countess of Chester Health Park in Chester.

We have one 12‑month fixed‑term post available, supported by preceptorship, clinical supervision and an annual appraisal.

The role is part of a well‑established, friendly multi‑disciplinary team that includes psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, nurses and support workers.

Key responsibilities

• Apply a person‑centred approach to working with adults with learning disabilities.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and literacy skills.
• Work with a range of professionals, agencies and carers within a busy inpatient unit across 24/7 shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• RNLD/RMNH first level, NMC registered nurse.
• Specific courses related to learning disability.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing training.

Knowledge and Expertise

• Ability to assess, plan and evaluate care for clients and carers.
• Ability to manage and delegate the work of others.
• Support clients in crisis.
• Ability to chair meetings and lead a team.
• Special interests related to current service developments.

Experience

• Worked with adults with a learning disability in an inpatient setting.
• Direct experience of working with clients with complex needs.
• Positive attitude toward people with learning disability.
• Aware of current issues and legislation.
• Experience in quality initiatives.
