Engineering Manager – Inventory

Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross-functional engineering squad, setting direction, enabling delivery, and ensuring the team ships reliable solutions that solve real operational problems.
  • Own team outcomes, ensuring your squad consistently delivers impactful work while maintaining strong engineering standards.
  • Develop engineers through coaching and feedback, helping them grow their technical and product capabilities.
  • Drive delivery discipline, ensuring the team prioritises effectively, manages scope, and lands work reliably.
  • Partner closely with Product, Data, Design, and Customer teams to deliver cutting edge AI solutions in an applied domain.
  • Stay close to the technical work, guiding architecture, reviewing code, and helping unblock engineers when needed.
  • Foster a healthy, high-performing team culture with clear expectations, strong communication, and accountability.

Complex Problems

  • Ensuring inventory data integrity across orders, invoices, stock counts, recipes, waste, and supplier data.
  • Building a highly accurate system of record for precise measurement of COGS and stock value, including reconciliation challenges such as opening and closing stock alignment, VAT handling, and supplier pricing logic.
  • Reducing operational overhead and driving efficiency through automation with machine learning.
  • Using LLMs to support explainable AI, meaning automated decisions can be traced, verified, explained, challenged and trusted by our customers.

First 6 months

  • Work on groundbreaking/innovative applications of ML/AI in our industry.
  • Continue building the foundations for Nory to act as a system of record for all customer inventory data.

Qualifications

  • Engineering leadership: You’ve led an engineering squad and take accountability for team outcomes, team health, and delivery. You understand that success is measured by what the team achieves collectively.
  • Coaching and people development: You run structured 1:1s, give clear feedback, and help engineers grow their technical and product capabilities.
  • Product-focused delivery: You’ve delivered meaningful initiatives within a cross-functional squad (Engineering, Product, Design, Data), producing measurable customer or commercial outcomes.
  • Strong product judgement: You work closely with Product to shape scope, make pragmatic trade-offs, and keep the team focused on impact rather than output.
  • Technical credibility: You’re an experienced engineer who can guide architectural decisions, review work, and help unblock the team when needed.
  • Systems thinking: You reason clearly about scale, reliability, data flow, and long-term maintainability as the product grows.
  • Clear communication: You bring structure to complex discussions and build alignment across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience building financial or inventory systems of record.
  • Experience working with high-integrity operational or accounting data.
  • Exposure to automation, AI‑assisted workflows, or ML‑driven decision systems.
  • Experience supporting enterprise customers with audit or compliance needs.
