Experienced Mechanical Engineer - Instrument Design
Newton Colmore is working with a tech company in Cambridge that manufacture a variety of instruments and systems, assisting them in their search for a mechanical design engineer.
We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers working on breakthrough technology for several different sectors, from airport scanners through to radar systems. You will own the full product lifecycle - from requirements capture through design, development, testing, and delivery to production - on projects ranging from proof-of-concept work to working prototypes.
Responsibilities
- Using SolidWorks and other 3D CAD tools, you will design a wide variety of solutions including products, assembly jigs, test equipment, and instrumentation.
- You will present proposed solutions through sketches, animations, and renderings.
- You will get hands-on with build, testing, and troubleshooting.
- You will own the full product lifecycle - from requirements capture through design, development, testing, and delivery to production - on projects ranging from proof-of-concept work to working prototypes.
Core skills required
- 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Catia, Creo or AutoCAD)
- CAD design & manufacturing
- Design for manufacture
- Welding & fabrication design
- Thermal simulation / modelling
- PDM experience or familiarity

- Electronics / PCB integration
- Supply chain liaison
- Ruggedised design
- Miniaturised / small form factor
- Active / passive cooling
- Additive manufacture
